Disappointing Mistakes

You know, something that has really been frustrating me lately is the amount of times I’ve heard someone say, “I’m disappointed in the way (so-and-so) is turning out.”
I have no problem with listening if someone needs to vent. My problem is when people continue to vent about it, continue to dwell on it. How does that help you? Dwelling on negativity helps in absolutely zero ways. The thing with venting is that it makes you feel like you’re getting rid of it and thus, helping yourself. But it doesn’t really. It builds when you vent.
And you know what, you will always be disappointed in someone if you watch them long enough. Whether they be a celebrity, a family member, an employee, a friend…they will always make mistakes that will disappoint you. And then what?
What do you do when this happens? Do you judge them for not having the strength that you have? Are you get disappointed enough to leave them? Just be done?
Or do you continue loving on them? Praying for them?
There are so many people in the Bible who were men and women of God…and then messed up bigtime. King David, the apostle Peter, Martha, Jacob. They were disappointments. They were the heroes who followed the Lord…and then fell. Have you ever thought, “man, that story would have been amazing, if Solomon had only stayed true to God”?
But he didn’t. None of them did. They all made mistakes. They were all disappointments. They ruined the story.
Or did they?
Those disappointments were opportunities to display the most incredible grace of God.
I don’t know what else to say about the disappointments you might be dealing with. Let it go, maybe. Find a snow-covered mountain and sing your heart out.
But don’t give up on whoever it is that is disappointing you. God never gave up on you. Pray for those people, because His grace can cover a multitude of sins.
